Close-ups of the old, larger manifold
Some people have asked, so here are some
close-up pictures of the CPVC manifold I originally used in my mash/lauter tun.
New, shorter manifold
I was having trouble stirring with the manifold covering the entire bottom of the
tun, and was having to recirculate quite a lot to get clear runnings. I took off
the last 3 "rungs" of the manifold and left just this short rectangle near the
outlet. You can actually see the removed section on the box in the upper left corner
of the picture.
Since I only batch sparge, there is no problem with channeling. This way
I can pour the vorlauf back in at the far end of the cooler and it doesn't interfere
with the set filter bed. It's also easier to stir, but I have knocked the short manifold
off a couple of times, so I will probably glue selected joints to help keep it together
while in use, but still allow it to be taken apart far enought that it can be cleaned.
